Nice pic. I saw a guy catch two of those off the north jetty. He also caught what looked like a small Amber Jack.

Nice Trout. Man I love catching trout in the surf. They seem to fight allot harder in the Gulf. How was the wind?

On that evening (Fri 07/20/2007) the wind was not bad.  The surf was a bit rough but much more calm than it had been in days past.  The fish were in the first gut (calf deep) and hit on a black and chrome Rapala Skitterwalk.  From about 7PM to 8PM they hit on about every 3rd cast.  I through back a bunch of dinks and fish under 16 inches.  I kept that one 15 incher (in the background) because he caught a hook in the gills and would have died anyway.  I ended up with a total of 6 between 18 and 25 inches.  Their bellies were empty so they were hungry.  That explains the aggressive strikes.

The following morning the strikes seemed timid.  They didn't even look at that black/chrome skitterwalk.  The few I caught were hitting a chartreuse and bone skitterwalk.
