I went fishing on Monday with my brother in law (AKA Capt. Peter ).  We launched at sun rise and went directly to the north jetty. The wind wasn't bad, but the tide was really ripping in.
When we first arrived we saw kings tarring up bait on the surface. Peter shot some video of ribbon fish jumping out of the water, while I took some cast at the kings. We took a couple of passes at them, but we were being pulled into the rocks, like a magnet. We decided to move to the surf side of the jetty. We wouldn't  be able reach the kings but we were hoping to catch some Spanish macks.  While we were dropping anchor we saw two black tips swim by,  and that got my blood pumping. We caught some ladyfish, reds and 21 inch trout. Peter caught a fish that looked like a little baracuda. I can't remember what its called, but I'll find out and post a picture later.
We were about to leave, when peter said " I'm going to chum up those black tips so you can catch one on your fly rod. I rushed to put on a different fly, and Peter started chumming. Almost instantly Peter caught a small blacktip. I had a black tip take my fly and run, but I quickly lost him. I had him chase it a couple of times after that but we had to leave. I  can't wait to go back and try it again.

Hey Nathan,

They are getting sharks that size all over the place.  I was  the surf one day and I guys from Huston took his Kayak out between the peer and the S. Jettie and he caught 2 small shars and then he saw about 4-5 foot shark swimming with him.

The kings this year are difficult to catch.  You going to be down this weekend?

I'll be down Friday. I think I'm going to tie some flies on circle hooks.
