Well it's now halfway through August so I guess I should at least start the thread for the August fishing report.

From what I’ve heard offshore has been especially good this month.  Reports of ling, kings, snapper, dorado, sharks and a variety of other fish are all being caught this month.
In the surf and on the rocks the Spanish Macs and trout have been good.  Nathan tells me that the fishing on the jetties is good but it is elbow to elbow fishermen so stake your claim and pick your spot wisely.

Oh, Motorjock there are at least two IOFT’s scheduled for this weekend so when you find them let me know. LOL

Baits of choice this week.
Artificial baits  – topwaters and Gulps
Live Baits – shrimp, piggy perch, mullet and mud minnows
Fresh Dead baits – shrimp, menhaden, ridden fish(for the Kings) and squid

Fresh or live baits have been the best!!

The south jetty was awesome Tuesday morning. From 6:30 to 7:30 AM trout were popping all over the surface. The water was being torn up from the surf to about threequarters down the jetty. Trout were striking every cast, and they were big. At about 7:30 the trout moved further off the rocks, but they were still there. I sat down to watch them swim, in the crystal clear water, and thought to myself "This is why I love fishing".

Seas weren't great for the T.W.A.T. this weekend, but allot of fish were caught. Blue and White Marlin, Sailfish, Dolphin and others. A 11 lb blackfin won the tuna pot. No one caught a yellowfin, so the blackfin got the cash. I saw quite a few red fish, trout and Spanish mackerel caught from the south jetty this weekend. The weather was nice most of the weekend and the water was beautiful. I hope I can go back this weekend.

I went to PINS this past Labor Day weekend.  The beaches were just too crowded for surf fishing in Port A.

I went down about 37 miles until I couldn't see anyone in either direction.  The tide was way out....the wade gut and 1st sandbar were high and dry.

Using soft plastics I caught some big whiting (14 inches or so) and then used them for cut bait on my long rods.  I caught two small blacktips on cut bait and then caught one Spanish Mack on a silver spoon.

Travel down PINS was good but a little rough.  There were 2 wheel drives down to around MM 20.  South of 20 there were some soft spots that could have been traversed with 4x2 but opted to use 4x4 to eliminate wheel spin in the soft sand.

There were large rafts of weeds floating in between MM 30 to 35.

I saw lots of whiting in the surf and a few schools of finger mullet and some anchovies.

Didn't catch a thing on top waters.
