I will be bringing my kids (12 & 16) down to Port A the week of July 21st to fish the North Jetty. Any ideas on what may be biting at that time under a popping cork with live shrimp ?

Tight lines.

Hey Brad,
Fortunately that is the best time to be fishing the North Jetty. Hopefully by then the water will have calmed down and cleared up. That time of year a shrimp under a popping cork can bring all sorts of fun. Close to the rocks, you might find some leftover sheepshead, and out a little further you could run into anything from trout to spanish mackerel, to pompano, to skipjacks (fun no matter what). If you are willing to free shrimp without the cork which I understand is harder for a young fisherman, you will find the same opportunities as well as reds and small sharks. I typically fish the outside (surf side) of the jetty as the water is usually clearer and less stirred up by all the boat traffic, but out towards the end anything can happen. You might even run into some big blackdrum late on their run. Anyway have a good time Brad and more importantly have a great time with your kids, because as a 21 year old my fondest memories are fishing with paps.
