The last week in June has made for some excellent fishing.  The kingfish have been thick at the end of the jetties. Anglers on the Island Queen are catching whiting, black drum, speckled trout, sand trout, Spanish mackerel, reds and sharks.  Offshore reports have been excellent as well with anglers catching kingfish, wahoo, amberjack, African pompano, grouper, snapper, dolphin, ling and shark along with a sailfish and marlin. Reports from fishermen on Horace Caldwell Pier of Reds, black drum, flounder, speckled trout and Spanish mackerel were being caught.

Well not much to report so far this week except fishing has been wet today. Their have been reports of kingfish being caught on the jetties between showers. The weather should clear up this week making it nice for the 4th of July fireworks show and the 71st annual Deep Sea Roundup tournament starting Thursday, July 6 for registration and fishing on Friday and Saturday.   So I will let you know later in the week how things are going.
Happy July 4
So happy fishing for now.

Rain Well the weather has not cooperated with fishermen this week. It has rained almost every morning this week and cleared off in the afternoon hours. It looks like this rain pattern is going to continue into the weekend.

Despite the rainfall Rainnyday kingfish are still the dominate catch. Fishermen from the jetties have reported that the kings are thick along with catches of trout, reds,  shark, gafftop,  Spanish mackerel, and drum. Anglers from the piers have reported despite the rain that fishing has been good with catches or trout, redfish, Sheepshead, black drum, Spanish mackerel, whiting, and sharks.

Trips offshore have been good as well with reports of kingfish, ling, red snapper, pompano, barracuda, grouper, amberjack, yellofin tuna, and a wide verity or sharks being caught.

With the 71st annual Deep Sea Roundup fishing tournament starting today we will have wait and see what the angles bring in. So we will let you know more about that later.

Island Shark  Sorry for the slow reporting but the fishing has been great. Sunny days and warm weather has been the settings in Port Aransas and has made for some fantastic fishing. The weather for the next day or two may be overcast with a chance of rain but should be clear by the weekend. The kingfish have been reported being caught as far in as Station St. pier and are thick along the jetties. Redfish, trout, Spanish mackerel, gafftop, black drum are being caught on the piers and jetties. The trout fishing is best at night under the lights. The pompano, Spanish mackerel, skipjack and trout are being caught in the surf.

The dock fishing reports have been excellent as well. Reports of dolphin, shark, blackfin tuna, amberjack, vermilion snapper, kingfish, mahi-mahi, barracuda, grouper, pompano and red snapper have all been caught.  The Offshore tournament fishing has been good with reports of blue & white marlin, sailfish, tuna, dolphin and swordfish being caught.

Did You Know

Is a world population of 6 billion too many? Compare that with animals. There are more than a million animal species. There are 6,000 species of reptiles, 73,000 kinds of spiders, and 3,000 types of lice. For each person there is about 200 million insects. The 4,600 kinds of mammals represent a mere 0,3% of animals and the 9000 kinds of birds only 0,7%. The most numerous bird specie is the red-billed quelea of southern Africa. There are an estimated 100 trillion of them.
