I arrived on Thurs. Aug. 31 but wasn't able to fish that evening.  On Sept. 1 (Fri) I hit the surf early (first light) with a blue/chrome mirrolure.  Within two hours I picked up 6 keeper trout.  Early they were biting in the wade gut but as the sun came up they moved to first sandbar.   I also caught one small Jack Crevalle and several skipjack and a needlefish (looks like a needlenose gar).  The pompano are all over the place.

After the topwater bite slowed I switched to a Berkley Gulp 3" New Penny shrimp on a 1/4 oz. chartruse jig head.  I picked up 3 keeper reds and 2 small reds.  I caught them in rips just behind the 1st sandbar (2nd gut).

Fri. evening I picked up another red and a trout in similar fashion.  The trout was in ankle deep water and I was casting from beach at the time.

Sept. 2 (Sat.) morning I added 2 more trout and a red to my stringer in similar fashion as described above.  I added one red that evening.

Sept. 3 (Sun) I was in skipjack hell on top waters.  I didn't catch any trout and the bite didn't last long.  The surf was very calm, no wind and water was very clear.  Had to come home that evening.

Watch your step in the surf as there are stingrays everywhere.  I saw large ones and small ones.  They are up in 3 inches of water at first light.  Where your polarized glasses even when it's dark so you can see the bottom.  One of my neighbors in Pioneer RV park stepped on one and got barbed.

Another neighbor has been picking up nice trout on top waters at first light in Charlie's Pasture.  He's fishing from  top of the new sea wall.  His fish were all in the 24" range.

I found that the top water lures with chrome in their color are working best.

There are lots of large mullet in the surf along with menhaden and shad.  There are some huge schools of little inch long fish but I don't know what they are.  Hopefully we'll get some smaller mullet soon.

Each day I saw dolphins (porpoises) in the second gut and even saw a couple of sea turtles Sun. morning.

Looking forward to Sept.  Last Sept. I caught a 37" tarpon on live, free lined piggy perch in the second gut.

This past weekend was my best all summer.  Hope it continues.

Great report. Thanks for all the great details. I haven't been able to go fishing in a while, and your report is very inspiring.Thunbs up
