Well spring break is over and the temperature is slowly rising which should make for some better fishing in the days to come.  With the temperature around 68 at night and 75 in the day and the water temperature in the mid 60s and on the rise the trout and Reds should start moving into their springtime areas.  The flats have been producing a mixture of Reds in Trout on top water baits and live shrimp.  The Black drum have been good off the piers and the sheepshead have been good off the jetties.  The Jack Cravel and Spanish Mackerel have been good off the jetties and in the surf

Offshore the wahoo had began to show up off of Baker and southern.  There’s been some nice limits reported on amberjack along with some grouper, pompano, jackfish and wahoo all being caught offshore.

So dust off those rods, oil those reels and rev up those engines for summer because the fishing has begun.

Baits of choice this week.
Live Baits – shrimp, sea lice
Dead baits –shrimp, squid, sea lice, eel and mullet.
Artificial baits – spoons, gulp baits.

Port Aransas fishing report March 28, 2007

Spring is here and the fishing is fantastic.  The weather is overcast and water is beautiful.  The place to catch fish is the jetties.  The fish have been thick this week on the jetties in both the surf and channel.  You would think it’s the 4th of July this week with fishermen wall to wall on the jetties.  It has been nonstop fishing with fishermen catching Spanish mackerel, sheepshead, red drum, black drum, and Pompano.  Fishermen at Roberts Point and Station Street piers have reported nice catches of sheepshead, red drum, and black drum.
The flats have been producing a mixture of Reds in Trout.
There have been reports of amberjack, grouper, pompano, jackfish and wahoo being caught offshore.

There should be some great fishing this week in Port Aransas because the fish are here.

Baits of choice this week.
Live Baits – shrimp, sea lice. Mud minnows
Dead baits –shrimp, mullet.
Artificial baits – spoons, or any thing shinny.
