[on the fly]

Hey Nathan,
What fly are you using to catch all those Spanish mackerel. I've been using Deceivers and shrimp patterns, but I'm doing more casting than catching.

Clouser minnows are my go to fly, for Spanish mackerel. I usually use small chartruce and white, or red and white Clousers. Deceivers and streamers work well, but macks just destroy them. Deer, hair,and sintheticks seem to hold up better than feathers. Wire leaders or fluorocarbon are a must. Don't throw any fly that you might regret loosing.

You have to use that fly!  The mac's love it!  Also, the larger size seems to work better for me.  I think it sinks better!  2/0 or 4/0. 

Are you getting any mac's yet.  We fished on Saturday, with spoons and fly's and didn't hook one?  Had some Jacks follow using my 10wt, but couldn't hook one of those either on the fly rod?

The water on the jetties is pretty clear this time of year. I like to use a twelve foot leader with a floating line. Once my leader gets much shorter than 9 feet I usually quit catching fish.

I go with a 10 ft leader, but I have also noticed that when the line get's shorter the fish quit...UNLESS you pick up your strip speed!  Nice little trick in windy conditions.  Shorter leader...faster srtips!

I totally agree with the faster stripping. It also keeps you from getting bit off.

You catch any Spanny Macs?  I notices there was not a report from Port A about them.  I casted a spoon all mornign on Saturday and didn't hit one?  Guess I shoudl have been trout fishing!

I haven't gone fishing this week, but I'll try to findout if they are still out on the rocks. One of my friends told me they saw Kingfish off the north jetty, so the weekend looks promising.
