From the Houston area and usually fish the Galvestion Bay complex, coming down with Family to stay in Port A early in June and wouldl like to fish.
Anyone have suggestions, areas to fish, popular flys....
Just looking for some good local knowledge to give me a heads up on some places to try.
Thanks for any replys

I am going to primarly try to fly fish - but my friend is a regular tackle guy so it would be good to be in a place where we could both get some action

I think I'm going to have to post a map.
From the shore you can fish : the jetties, the surf, Roberts point park, Charlie's pasture pier, Charlie's pasture bulkhead, fish pass, Wilson's cut, brown and root flats, harbor island, and a couple of other places that don't have names. If you want to wade I would try Wilson's cut. It's easy to get to and it is relatively easy to cast there. The jetties, both north and south, are fun to fish. Just remember to watch your footing. Only cast from places you can land fish. Don't break your leg trying to net the big one.
The surf can yield some large and hard fighting fish. If the waves are crashing over you, and you can't cast to save your life. It's time to fish somewere else. If night fishing is your thing, Charlie's pasture is the place to be. In the summer trout are usually thick under the lights. I like to go to charlies pasture at around 4:30 or 5:00 in the morning. When the sun starts to rise, I move to the south jetty. If you need more info on any of these spots, just ask. To tell you about all of the places acesable with a boat I would have to write a book.
When you get to Port Aransas, go to Port A Outfitters and ask them were the fish a biting. They get a fishing report from everyone that walks through the door. They also sell fly rods and reels, line, leaders, and flys hand tied in Texas.

Max,
I was wondering what side of Houston you live on and how you drive to Port A. I moved to Houston from Port A, and go back as much as possible. I take 288 south through Pearland. I take the West Columbia exit which is highway 35. 35 goes all the way to Aransas Pass , but I exit blessing and take 1862 through the countryside. 1862 meets back up with 35 and you take it to 361 and strait into Port Aransas. This way takes about 30 minuets longer than 59 but the view is worth it. We have seen deer, hogs hawks, alligators, and every kind of bird you can think of. We used to drive a different way everytime, and this has become our favorite.

I have always taken 59 to get there and Corpus but your way does sound a lot more senic and worth the detour.  We will be in no rush to get down there on Saturday since we cant check in to our condo until 4pm so we will have to try your route.

Print out a map. Don't speed in Matigorda county. Get cheap gas in West Columbia.

I'm going down tomorrow. I'll be fishing off the south jetty on Saturday morning. I'll let you know how the fishing is.
