PORT ARANSAS FISHING REPORTS FOR WEEK OF JUNE 08, 2007

This week’s weather forecast is partly cloudy, & breezy with temperatures in the mid 80s.

With the rains hopefully behind us the fishing has been spectacular the past few weeks and should only get better.  The fishermen have reported that the trout fishing has been outstanding with most averaging 18 to 24 inches and many as much as 28 and a nice mix of other fish being caught.

The jetties have been producing a nice variety of trout, redfish, drum, Spanish mackerel, gafftop and other fish.

The San Jose shoreline and flats have been producing some nice trout and redfish.
With the waters crawling with baitfish, fishermen fishing with fresh or live bait have been doing the best.

Fishermen on Horace Colwell Pier reported catching drum, trout, redfish, and sharks.

Fishermen on the piers have all reported catching some nice trout at night under the lights.

Fishing offshore has been good as well with reports of red snapper, vermilion snapper amberjack, tuna, grouper, ling, sharks, wahoo and more being caught.

The fishing has been good the past few weeks and should only get better in the days to come.

Baits of choice this week.
Artificial baits  – topwater plugs, and Gulps
Live Baits – shrimp and mud minnows
Fresh Dead baits – shrimp, menhaden and squid

Fresh or live baits have been the best!!

Anyone have an update from the Jetties?  I hear some good trout still being caught!  Shark also!

Hey, Kevin
Went out on the north jetty Friday and Saturday morning. I caught spanish mackerel and lady fish both days. Friday morning I saw allot of keeper trout caught, most of them in the mid twenties. Saturday the jetty was packed where the trout were caught the previous day. I missed a couple of large trout. The first one shook the hook during the fight. The second one I saw swimming along the rocks before I cast to it. I actually saw it hit the fly but I missed the hookup. Horace Caldwell pier producer some nice trout Friday night. A guy I know named Mark let me take a picture of his almost 28 inch trout. Log in to see the pictures.

Hey Nathan,

Thank you for the update!  I plan to fish the Northside on Saturday.  We have a big group of guys going, so it looks like I might have to pack away the flyrod.  That's a bummer.  Hopefully the traffic will be lighter this weekend?  Or I might have to walk to the end!

I know one of these days I will run into you!

Fishing was good this weekend in Port A.

You can expect good number of Spanny macs and a few smaller trout that are all getting wise to spoons.  The camping is hot.  Drink plenty of wahter.

There is a "tourist" hatch going on for the flyfisherman especially on the Jettys, so plan to not have a lot of room to cast.
