Tanning Memorial Day weekend proved to be a great start of the fishing season.  The weather was sunny with some clouds with a high in the mid 80’s. The rains did show up in mid week but the weather should be nice for the weekend partly cloudy with temperatures in the mid 80’s to the mid 70’s at night.

The fishing has been good with reports of reds, speckled trout, and Spanish mackerel being caught on the jetties.  The Lydia Ann Channel has been the hot spot this week. Fishermen have reported catching some nice speckled trout.   Trout fishing has been especially good at night under the lights.

Fishermen have reported catching pompano, whiting, sharks and Spanish mackerel in the surf. King fish are being reported at the end of the jetties.
The docks reports have been good this week as well. With reports of red snapper, shark, amberjack, kingfish, grouper, ling, wahoo and dorado all being caught.

Baits of choice this week.
Live Baits - shrimp
Dead baits - fresh shrimp, menhaden
Food Source cut baits.
Artificial baits - Norton Sand Eels, Bass Assassins, Gulp shrimp

Zzz This weekend should make for some spectacular fun in the sun. The weather should be sunny with some clouds with the days in the mid to high 80’s and the nights in the high 70’s.

The docks have reported that Red Snapper, Shark, Kingfish, Ling, Wahoo and Dorado all being caught. The Kings have moved in and limits are being caught.  It’s that time of year the marlin and sailfish are in.  This week several blue and white marlins were caught along with several sailfish and huge Dolphins.

So bring your swimsuit and fishing rod and enjoy what the island has to offer some fun in the sun for all.

Island Shark Welcome anglers, This weeks fishing should be outstanding for anglers in this weekend’s two tournaments in Port Aransas and should make for a fantastic Fathers Day Weekend.
Fathers Day
So ladies and gentlemen get you’re gear ready for this years 2006 Bill Hart Grand Slam Billfish Tournament has been scheduled for June 15-18 and this year’s ladies only Powder Puff fishing tournament scheduled for June 16-17.

The weather should be partly cloudy but mostly clear with the days in the mid 80’s and the nights in the mid 70’s with a slight chance of showers on Sunday evening.

This weeks fishing word should be Kingfish, Kingfish, and Kingfish.
If this week’s fishing is anything like last week’s the fishing should be fantastic. The jetty was the place to be this week. The channel and surf were blackened with bait fish and the Kingfish were thick along the channel rocks and in the surf. Several tarpon have been seen but none landed. There have been several sharks  Shark caught on the piers, jetties, and in the surf. Redfish, Speckled Trout, Spanish Mackerel, Pompano, Whiting are all abundant in these areas.

The Gulf waters are spectacular and have been very productive this week with many blue and white marlins being caught along with several sailfish, wahoo and dolphins. The docks are reporting large numbers of Red Snapper, Shark, Kingfish, Ling, Wahoo and Dorado all being caught.

Baits of choice this week.
Live Baits – shrimp, mullet, piggy perch
Dead baits - fresh shrimp, menhaden, mullet

Sunning Welcome anglers, to this years Port Aransas Masters Fred Rhodes Memorial Billfish Tournament. This weeks seas should make for better fishing than last weeks 6-7’ seas and the weather should be partly cloudy in the high 80’s and the nights in the high 70’s. The wind has laid down and the seas are calm so this should make for some good fishing this weekend.

The Gulf fishing should be very good with reports of many blue and white marlins being caught along with several sailfish. There are also reports of a large numbers of Dorado, Wahoo, Red Snapper, Shark, Kingfish, and Ling being caught.

Well Kingfish is the fish of the week.  Fishermen at the jetties have reported that the kings are thick along the channel rocks and in the surf. Several tarpon were caught this week on the jetties also. Even though the fishing was slower this last week and live bait was a bit scarce due to weather there were several sharks  Shark  caught on the piers, jetties, and in the surf and the Redfish, Speckled Trout, Spanish Mackerel, Pompano, Whiting are all abundant.

Baits of choice this week.
Live Baits – shrimp, mullet, piggy perch
Dead baits - fresh shrimp, menhaden, mullet
Artificial baits – Rat-L-Trap, Gulp shrimp,  Thunbs up Bass Assassin (Watermelon red glow Shad5”) ,  Thunbs up Saltwater Assassins (Fire tiger shad5”), and Spoon’r baits

Offshore baits - Shimano butterfly jigs & Williamson jigs

Welcome anglers,
Happy 4 Not much going on this week in Port Aransas as far as fishing Tournaments are concerned but it’s the start of the 4Th of July Weekend with beautiful weather predicted.  The weather this last week was excellent and should continue into the next making for a great fireworks show on July 4th  and a good time to Bar-B-Q BBQ setback relax and have some fun in the sun. This weeks weather is predicted to be partly cloudy in the high 80’s and the nights in the high 70’s. The mild wind should make for some calm seas making it nice for fishing this weekend.

The Gulf fishing this last week has been excellent with reports of blue and white marlins along with several sailfish being caught. The docks have reported large numbers of Dorado, Wahoo, Shark, Ling, Red Snapper and Kingfish being caught.
Fishermen at the jetties have reported that the kings are thick in the surf and along the rocks. Several tarpon were caught this week on Spoon’r baits.  Fishermen are reporting that the piers, jetties, and surf are all returning some nice catches of Redfish, Speckled Trout, Spanish Mackerel, Pompano, black drum and Whiting. Fishermen in the bays have been returning with some nice redfish and trout.

Fishing report from a member:
I managed to snag a 27 inch black tip (down towards mile marker 31 I believe) while standing on the second sand bar in the surf. I also brought in a 28.5 inch spanish mackrel and another 23 inch mackrel. The shark and first mackerel were caught on fresh dead menhaden. Hope this may help other anglers in the near future.
Jim H.

Baits of choice this week.
Live Baits – shrimp, mullet, piggy perch
Dead baits – menhaden, fresh shrimp, squid
Artificial baits – Gulp shrimp,  Saltwater Assassins (10w40 5”), and  Thunbs up Thunbs up Spoon’r baits
