Hello all,
We will coming down to PA in October.  Anyone know what will be running and the best place to fish or wade from the shore?
Thanks,

I wrote a long message here earlyer, but  I lost it somehow.
The surf is awsome in October. Actualy I should save time and just say that october is one of the best months for fishing in Port Aransas. The surf, flats, and jetties will be full of fish. When and where the fish will be, is greatly controled by the fall weather.
In October, the summer crowds are gone and the Winter Texans are just stating to show up. This means more bait and more fish for everbody. If you need specific places to fish just ask, and I'll make a list. Fishing changes frome day to day in the fall and winter, so asking at Port A Outfitters, when you'r buying bait or tackle, is always a good idea.

What about June and NO boat?

Anybody have suggestions on where to wade if the wife and I are coming down but do not have a boat to get to any remote locations?

Thanks,

Don't fret if you don't have a boat.  There's lots of good fishing from shore.  Often times I catch more trout in the surf than many of my friends that go out on a boat in the bays.

I usually start at daybreak in the surf with a light colored topwater.  I like the Rapala Skitterwalks best but the Mirrolures work well too.  Start out in the wad gut (calf deep) and as the sun rises move out to the first sandbar.  Work the topwater in the trough between waves.  Best conditions are when you have greenish water up to the beach.

This June has been especially windy causing rough surf and muddy water.  If this is the condition then move to the back side of the island and fish Charlie's Pasture from the seawall.  Again using the topwaters for about the first 2 hours of light.  Then go back to topwaters for the last 2 hours of light.

During the mid-day try using live mullet on the bottom, both in the surf and at Charlie's Pasture.  Live mullet in the newly opened Packery Channel will usually get some attention.  Live shrimp from the old Fish Pass jetties at the north end of the Mustand Island State Park is good for some sheepshead and others.

Live Mullet in the surf is always good.  Just wade out to the 2nd sandbar and cast out to the 3rd.  Use a spider weight if the surf is rough.

If you have 4x4 you can always make a day of it down on Padre Island National Seashore.  There's lots of good surf fishing down there.

And, of course the Jetties are always a good spot.  Just ask at Port A Outfitters and they'll tell you what to chunk out and how.   Good Luck.

Great post motor, I just wanted to add a few things. Its real easy to rent kayaks any where on the island then go across the ferries. Once you get over there pull off on one of the dirt roads between the ferries and the aransas pass bridge. Either side offers good flats fishing. Also if you are driving towards the bridge and you get off to the left you can find a channel (with an old sunken sail boat in it) and that will take you back to brown and root flats which is always pretty decent.

Moreover, shamrock cove from the bank is pretty decent, live mullet or mud minnows around the rigs have produced some nice flounder and reds. Hope it goes well and good luck.
